Why use our Outdoor Rub CBD Topical?
While our salve is a wonderful year-round all-purpose CBD muscle rub, it really shines for those warm-weather adventures. Not only do CBD, Aloe, Menthol, and Essential Oils have your back, but a blend of herbs specifically used for their unique properties are infused into this handy balm. Each batch of Outdoor Rub is made with oil infused with plantain leaf, arnica, comfrey, and calendula for several weeks before it's strained and whipped up into our cooling, pain-relieving, and bug deterrent formula. Herbs are magic! Read on to learn a little about the healing properties in this winning combo.
Plantain
Even if you aren't familiar with plantain, you've probably seen it before! It is very common and a great first aid herb. In fact, plantain can be chewed and applied directly to the skin to ease a sting, bite or minor burn. Pretty cool. It is cooling, soothing, and astringent in nature, so it's good at relieving insect bites and poison ivy as well.
Comfrey
The name comfrey means “to knit together” in Latin and “knitbone” in Old English. As these names imply, it is helpful for speeding up the healing process of broken bones, bruising, and joint injuries. It is often recommended to avoid using comfrey on open wounds of the skin, as it can actually work TOO well and can heal the superficial layers of skin before the deeper layers have a chance to heal. We don't recommend using our Outdoor Rub on broken skin, so no worries there!
Calendula
Calendula is all around great at soothing. As someone with sensitive skin, it's my go-to for something that is going to be gentle and calming - easing redness and irritation. Its beautiful golden blossoms are actually a type of marigold! Calendula can help ease burns and decrease skin inflammation.
Arnica
Arnica is a perennial herb belonging to the sunflower family. Before I was introduced to CBD, Arnica was my go-to for pain relief of bruises and sprains. It is thought of as topical ibuprofen. In fact, a study in 2014 actually found that applying topical arnica was found to be as effective as ibuprofen at reducing osteoarthritis pain. Arnica is potentially quite dangerous taken internally - we like to stick to using this potent little flower sparingly and only externally.
